Our Approach

To achieve its expected results, HIMSO works with individuals, households, communities and systems. In addition, it is committed to work with collective efforts to bring changes on community pertaining health issues. These individuals, households, communities and systems are interconnected pathways through which HIMSO Holistic Model is implemented.

Engagement

HIMSO engages individuals, households, and communities as essential decision-makers and duty-bearers in its health interventions. HIMSO works strategically with ministries, local government authorities, and health governing bodies at all levels, along with partner organizations. Through this engagement, HIMSO fosters active community participation in identifying health challenges and developing solutions. HIMSO ensures these solutions reach responsible actors for informed decision-making, maintaining continuous dialogue through meaningful engagement and active listening.

Empowerment

HIMSO empowers communities by strengthening their structures and establishing new Community Health Users' Associations (CHuAs) where needed. HIMSO continuously builds the capacity of existing CHuAs to manage Emergency Transport Schemes (ETS) and health insurance programs. HIMSO's work includes training community health workers and enrollment agents while enhancing systems to support collective efforts toward national health goals. HIMSO supports community health initiatives and improves healthcare access by enabling individuals, households, and healthcare providers to effectively address health challenges.

Partnership

To achieve its Five Year Strategic Plan, HIMSO forges strategic partnerships with government agencies, development partners, and community organizations. HIMSO builds collaborative relationships that leverage each partner's strengths to improve healthcare access sustainably. HIMSO's partnership strategy focuses on working with community leaders, health experts, and like-minded organizations to expand quality healthcare services.

Sharing

HIMSO actively shares its implementation experiences, including progress, processes, and successful models. HIMSO documents best practices and uses lessons learned to influence health policies and systems. Through transparent reporting, HIMSO demonstrates accountability while applying knowledge to improve healthcare delivery. HIMSO collaborates with communities to identify challenges and co-create solutions, documents healthcare access barriers, and works with authorities to implement improvements. Together with partners, HIMSO develops action frameworks that guide sustainable, community-driven health initiatives.
